Certainly not the best weather we have enjoyed at Dash ‘N’ Splash but at least it did not rain all day Sunday, as it did over most of the country including the IOW festival. However it did put some visitors off and entries were a little down. However, those that did enter gave a good account of themselves and the finals were as closely contested as we have seen for some time. It was also great to see some brand new dogs competing for the top honours. Dash, the star of Sky TV, was victorious again on both days but was pushed hard by Meeka on Saturday and Sam with Mark Turner on Sunday who ended up just 6’’ behind after a thrilling final with our long standing champion. A special mention here for Ike from Belgium who managed a credible 19’ 6’’.The mini competition was a quality affair with just a 4’ difference between the very top and bottom places on both days. Very consistent jumping from these pint sized paddlers. “Springer’s” headed the results with Bailey’s 18’ on Saturday and Stanley’s 17’ on a wet and windy Sunday. On Saturday Stanley in fact equalled Bailey with an 18’ jump - a dead heat. He eventually lost after an exciting jump off which went to two heats before the dogs could be separated. Many thanks to all those that helped with a special thank you to all of our friends from Belgium who ran the event for the very first time. They did a very professional job over the two days. I know they would like to thank Megan for her help in the trailer and Kate for judging the finals. Keep those dogs fit and ready for September when we expect to have the largest Aqua Zone ever at the Paws in the Park show with no less than 5 pools! 2012 is Olympic year and don’t be surprised if we see some dogs from overseas here to throw down a challenge.
